The fire broke out in Vernon shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, May 19 and temporarily closed Route 565 between Lake Pochung Road and Scenic Lakes Road, police and fire crews said.

The Springer family lost their home, as well as all of their belongings during the blaze, according to a GoFundMe launched by Michelle Obiedzinski, who says the victims are cousins. The family’s dog was also killed.

“I am absolutely devastated and can’t even begin to imagine what they’re going through right now,” writes Obiedzinski. “They literally have the clothes they were wearing today and nothing else.”

More than $11,300 had been raised to help the Springer family rebuild as of Tuesday, May 23. Social media awareness had been picking up as well.

“If you can help in anyway, even a dollar, please consider it,” Obiedzinski writes. “They work hard for everything they have. I don’t even know what else to say.”
